Baghdad: Iraqi Government Spokesperson Haider Al-Aboudi announced on Monday that Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidi will soon visit Iran and Turkey. He noted the growing interest in Iraq’s role in supporting dialogue and easing regional tensions, while reaffirming that restricting weapons to state control is an independent national decision.

According to Iraqi News Agency, Al-Aboudi stated that the visits are part of the Iraqi government’s program aimed at strengthening Iraq’s relations with neighboring countries and regional and international partners, particularly following the positive outcomes of Prime Minister Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi’s official visit to the United States.

He added that the visits are based on the requirements of good-neighborly relations and shared interests, and discussions will address several bilateral issues alongside regional developments and ongoing efforts to reduce tensions and enhance security and stability.

Al-Aboudi emphasized the interest in Iraq’s role, based on its balanced relations and the confidence it enjoys, in supporting dialogue and helping ease regional tensions to serve regional security and stability.

Regarding the issue of restricting weapons to state control, Al-Aboudi stated that this is a sovereign Iraqi matter. The Iraqi government affirms that the issue is managed in accordance with the Constitution and the law, through an independent national decision, as part of the government’s program to reinforce state sovereignty and strengthen the rule of law. He added that this represents a firm government commitment being implemented through competent Iraqi institutions.
