Baghdad: The Lebanese Army announced on Tuesday that Israeli forces fired near its units as they began deploying in the town of Zawtar al-Gharbiya in the Nabatieh Governorate in southern Lebanon.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Army Command stated that “Israeli occupation forces fired in close proximity to military units” while they were carrying out the deployment operation in Zawtar al-Gharbiya. The Army Command expressed concerns that this “aggression could hinder the implementation of deployment steps in the pilot areas,” which are being carried out within the framework of communications and coordination with the Military Coordination Group for Lebanon (MCG4L).

Earlier on Tuesday, the Lebanese Army announced the start of its military deployment in Zawtar al-Gharbiya in the Nabatieh district. This marks the beginning of the first phase of the “Framework Agreement,” according to the mechanism stemming from the tripartite understanding with the United States and Israel, reached in Rome.

Zawtar al-Gharbiya is located south of the Litani River and is among the pilot areas covered by the first phase of the “Framework Agreement,” signed on June 26th. The deployment is part of a broader effort to implement the agreement, which aims to enhance military coordination and stability in the region.
