Baghdad: The First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Adnan Faihan, has announced that the Federal Board of Supreme Audit will be held to a specific deadline to address documented violations outlined in its report against various ministries and institutions. He asserted that the Parliament is committed to ensuring the Board fulfills its oversight duties, which are crucial for correcting financial and administrative management and upholding integrity, transparency, and public fund protection. This move aligns with the constitutional duty and national responsibility to combat corruption, a significant public demand.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, during a parliamentary session attended by 300 members, Faihan emphasized the importance of transparency in discussing the Federal Board of Supreme Audit’s 2025 report. The session aimed to inform the public about the report’s findings and the Board’s role in preventing corruption. Faihan highlighted the necessity for the Board to disclose details about cases referred to the Integrity Commission and the Public Prosecution, the recovery of wasted funds, and actions taken against violations. He urged parliamentary committees to monitor the Board’s procedures, ensuring accountability and enhancing the effectiveness of the oversight system.

Faihan further explained that the Constitution mandates the supervision and monitoring of oversight bodies by the House of Representatives. He stressed that the current parliamentary session is focused on rectifying the shortcomings of the previous session by reactivating the Council’s supervisory role over oversight bodies. Hosting the Federal Board of Supreme Audit marks a new beginning, as independent bodies under parliamentary oversight must recognize the Council’s determination to exercise its full constitutional powers. This approach aims to correct the course of state institutions and improve their oversight systems’ efficiency.
