Abu dhabi: An invitation has been extended to authors, illustrators, and publishers worldwide to partake in the International Prize for Arabic Children's Literature, organized by the UAE Board on Books for Young People (UAEBBY). This prestigious event, sponsored by EandP, aims to recognize and celebrate excellence in Arabic children's and young adult literature. Participants are encouraged to complete their submissions by July 31, 2026, to be considered for the 18th edition of the award. The deadline for submitting books and nominated works is set for August 31, 2026, providing ample time for registered publishers to finalize and send hard copies of their entries.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, since its inception, this award has established itself as a leading accolade in the Arab world, particularly in the realm of children's and young adult literature. It continues to play a significant role in fostering the creation of books that blend literary and intellectual merit with artistic excellence. This initiative not only nurtures young imaginations but also fortifies their connection to reading. The prize serves as a vital platform for showcasing creative talents, broadening the reach of Arabic children's literature both regionally and internationally, and inspiring the development of content that aligns with the aspirations of future generations.
The current cycle of the award introduces a variety of categories, including Early Childhood, Picture Books, Young Adult Books, and a new addition, Nonfiction. These categories cater to a wide array of age groups, spanning from birth to 18 years old. This inclusivity underscores the award's dedication to promoting creative works that align with the diverse interests and developmental stages of children and young adults.
To qualify, submissions must be original works written in Arabic and published in print within the past five years. Additionally, they must not have previously won any other awards, and all intellectual property and publishing rights must be adhered to. The award stipulates that educational, school, or scientific books, as well as electronic or audio publications, are ineligible.
Publishers are permitted to submit up to five titles in the Early Childhood and Picture Book categories, with no submission limit in the other categories, provided all criteria are met. The total prize fund amounts to AED 1.2 million, which will be distributed among authors, illustrators, and publishers, further incentivizing participation and excellence in the field of Arabic children's literature.
