Baghdad: Justice Minister Khalid Shawani has pledged to continue reform and rehabilitation procedures for inmates, emphasizing the provision of necessary resources to enhance human rights standards within correctional facilities.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Ministry of Justice issued a press release highlighting a recent meeting where Minister Shawani engaged with relatives of inmates at the Iraqi Correctional Department headquarters. The meeting, attended by the Director General of the Department, Majid Al-Mandhour, and his deputies, was part of the Ministry's ongoing efforts to strengthen direct communication with citizens and address their demands and concerns.

The press release detailed how, during the meeting, Minister Shawani was informed about the significant problems and obstacles raised by the inmates' relatives. In response, he instructed the relevant authorities to follow up on and address these issues immediately in accordance with applicable laws and regulations, aiming to enhance the quality of services provided.

Minister Shawani reiterated the Ministry's commitment to implementing reform and rehabilitation programs through the Iraqi Correctional Department. He stressed the importance of creating a suitable environment for inmates to facilitate their rehabilitation and prepare them for positive reintegration into society after serving their sentences. This approach, he noted, is based on humanitarian and reformative principles that reinforce human rights and strengthen opportunities for genuine reform.
