Baghdad: The Ministry of Commerce has issued a response to the recent allegations made by the Bar Association, stating that the claims have no basis in reality. The Ministry emphasized its commitment to overcoming challenges faced by citizens in the Companies Registration Department and enhancing electronic services.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Ministry clarified in a press release that it has been actively addressing issues related to invoices by engaging with the Ministerial Council for Economy to cancel certain procedures. Practical solutions have been adopted within the Companies Registration Department, allowing for the acceptance of declarations and clarifications regarding invoices to streamline transactions.
The Ministry highlighted its efforts to reduce the security vetting period from 30 days to 7 days, in collaboration with the Office of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, to expedite transactions for citizens. The new electronic system is designed to facilitate direct interactions with government agencies, minimizing paper correspondence and promoting electronic integration. The Ministry asserted that the electronic platform aims to simplify processes for stakeholders rather than limit their visits, and that holding the Companies Registration Department accountable for procedures linked to other entities is inaccurate.
Furthermore, the Ministry affirmed its right to pursue legal actions against any baseless accusations targeting its departments. It extended an invitation to the Bar Association for dialogue and cooperation, encouraging feedback from lawyers who have benefited from the electronic services, to help enhance the work environment and improve services for citizens.
In contrast, the Bar Association announced plans to protest outside the Companies Registration Department next Monday, citing ongoing issues and obstacles faced by lawyers that have not been resolved despite previous communications with the Ministry of Trade. The Bar Association's statement expressed concerns over the continued hindrances, which have led to companies revoking lawyers' powers of attorney and diminishing confidence in legal procedures, impacting the livelihoods of many lawyers. The Association emphasized that these challenges are not due to lawyers' negligence but stem from the complex procedures they face.
