Baghdad: The Bahrain Theatre Associations Union, in collaboration with the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities, has announced the launch of the second edition of the “Playwriting Award,” marking its return after a five-year hiatus.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the award will commence on July 15, 2026, and will run until October 20, 2026. This year’s edition is dedicated to the artist and writer Ibrahim Al-Oraied, a key figure in transforming theatre from a school activity into a significant cultural undertaking in Bahrain. He played a crucial role in inspiring the formation of theatre groups during the 1960s and 70s.

Participants can submit their playwriting entries via an online form, ensuring both ease of participation and confidentiality of their data. Each submission will undergo a comprehensive evaluation process, utilizing an electronic coding system to maintain integrity and impartiality. The selection of jury members will occur soon after the submission period concludes, aiming to bolster transparency and independence in the judging process.

The results will be announced during the opening ceremony of the 5th Bahrain Theatre Festival on November 4, 2026. The event is expected to be attended by a distinguished group of theatre professionals, intellectuals, and media representatives. Playwriting submissions can be made through the official website of the Bahrain Theatre Association.
