Basra: The Women’s Affairs Division of the Basra Education Directorate recently organized an awareness workshop titled “Empowering Rural Women and Ways to Support Them,” specifically targeting coordinators in the Shatt al-Arab schools sector. The event was attended by the Director of the Education Department, Zuhair Abdul Abbas.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Rasha Ahmed, a member of the sub-committee for monitoring and implementing the strategy to combat violent extremism leading to terrorism, highlighted the significance of empowering rural women. She stressed that enhancing their role in sustainable development could be achieved through educational, training, and rehabilitation opportunities that develop their economic and social capabilities.

Ahmed also discussed the main challenges faced by women in rural areas, outlining mechanisms to support them. These include increasing their participation in community activities, raising awareness about their rights, and fostering initiatives that improve their living standards. Through these efforts, women’s active roles in building both family and society could be reinforced.

The workshop concluded by affirming that empowering rural women is essential for achieving social justice and sustainable development. Their pivotal role in supporting social stability and contributing to a more prosperous future was emphasized as a cornerstone for societal advancement.
