Baghdad: The Iraqi Bar Association Council has announced its decision to organize a protest in front of the Companies Registration Department next Monday. The protest is in response to what the council describes as deliberate obstructions to lawyers’ work at the department.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the council has discussed the ongoing issues and obstacles lawyers face at the Companies Registration Department. Despite previous official correspondence and attempts at reaching an understanding with the Ministry of Trade, there has been no real solution or tangible reform to improve the situation.

The council’s statement highlighted that the persistence of these obstacles and the intentional hindrance of transactions have led to several companies withdrawing their powers of attorney from lawyers. This situation has caused a decline in trust in the effectiveness of legal procedures, negatively impacting the livelihoods of many lawyers. The council emphasized that these challenges are not due to any negligence by the lawyers but are a result of the complex procedures and obstacles imposed on them.

The council has also decided to initiate an open-ended sit-in if the situation persists and their demands remain unmet.
