Basra: The Basra Governorate was awarded the Shield of Excellence by the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers for achieving first place in volunteer work among all Iraqi governorates for the year 2025. This recognition was celebrated during a ceremony attended by the Deputy Secretary-General of the Council of Ministers, Farhad Nimatullah Hussein.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the award was presented to the Governor of Basra, Asaad Al-Eidani, during the Volunteer Work Conference in Baghdad. The event was held under the patronage of Prime Minister Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi and the supervision of the Secretary-General of the Council of Ministers, Hamid Al-Ghazi. The conference, themed ‘The Arba’een of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him): A Model for Volunteer Work,’ highlighted the significant contributions of volunteers in the region.

The Governor of Basra announced plans to host a ceremony in the coming days to honor individuals and teams who have excelled in volunteer work within the governorate. Honorees will include distinguished residents and volunteer teams, such as the Cancer Warriors team. Engineer Haider Jabbar, nominated by the Permanent Committee for Volunteer Work, was recognized as the best volunteer for the year 2025.
