Baghdad: Nouri al-Maliki, head of the State of Law Coalition, met with First Deputy Speaker of Parliament Adnan Faihan on Tuesday evening to discuss the latest political developments in the country and issues related to the legislative and executive branches.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, a statement from al-Maliki's office highlighted that both leaders stressed the importance of enhancing cooperation and coordination among political forces to consolidate stability and support the state's progress. They underscored the necessity for Parliament to activate its oversight role to monitor government performance, promote transparency and accountability, and serve the public interest while safeguarding public funds.
The discussions also focused on the urgent need to expedite the passage of legislation impacting citizens' lives, supporting government efforts in implementing its program, and ensuring the integration of roles among constitutional authorities to boost public trust in state institutions.
At the meeting's conclusion, the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament commended Maliki's role in solidifying the political process since its inception, noting his significant political influence and pivotal role within the coordination framework for national consensus and stability.
