Baghdad: The 2027 Africa Cup of Nations will see participation from 24 national teams, as confirmed by the President of the African Football Confederation (CAF), Patrice Motsepe. This announcement dispels recent media reports suggesting a different format for the tournament. According to National Iraqi News Agency, Motsepe addressed these rumors during a press conference, where he confirmed that the tournament will be hosted jointly by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda in June and July 2027. The qualifying matches are scheduled to take place in September and October of 2026. Additionally, Motsepe revealed a significant change in the tournament's frequency, stating that after 2027, the Africa Cup of Nations will occur every four years instead of the biennial format. The CAF President also mentioned the commencement of the bidding process for the 2028, 2032, and 2036 tournaments, noting that "exciting bids" have already been received. While the specific stadiums for the 2027 finals, set for June 19 to July 17, have yet to be announced, the event promises to be a significant occasion in the region.
