Sharjah: Out of more than 2,098 applications submitted by publishers from around the world, the Sharjah Book Authority has announced that 154 books have won the Translation Grant, one of Sharjah's most prominent initiatives to promote translation globally. Since its inception in 2011, the grant has provided 2,405 translated books to Arabic and international libraries, allocating $300,000 annually. Of this amount, $250,000 is designated for funding translations to and from Arabic, and $50,000 for translations between other languages.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the grant aims to broaden cultural exchange among the world's peoples, enhance the impact of translation as a tool for building bridges of communication and deepening dialogue between different cultures, and expand the reach of Arab creative and intellectual content globally, thereby strengthening its contribution to human civilization.

Translated Arabic books topped the list of grant recipients, with 76 books translated into 20 foreign languages receiving the award. This was followed by 31 English books translated into 9 languages, and 18 Turkish books translated into 7 languages. Additionally, other publications from 53 languages were translated into Arabic. The prize for each winning book reaches up to $4,000 for general interest books and $1,500 for children's books, depending on the word count.

Compared to 2025, when the organization approved 99 titles for the translation grant, this year's grant saw remarkable growth, with an increase of 55 books and a growth rate of nearly 56%. This indicates the high quality of the submitted works and the growing interest in the grant, reflecting its commitment to recognizing and promoting intellectual content in both Arab and international publishing markets.

Ahmed bin Rakkad Al Ameri, CEO of the Authority, stated that this grant complements the efforts of the Emirate of Sharjah to expand the publishing industry and open new horizons for the exchange of knowledge between cultures. He emphasized that Sharjah continues to develop its role by increasing the number of projects it supports and encouraging publishers to discover new voices and experiences worthy of being translated into other languages. Each cycle of the grant represents the beginning of a new journey for books that will reach readers they might not have otherwise reached, adding new intellectual output to the book industry and contributing to deepening dialogue between civilizations.
