Tehran: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian emphasized the necessity of formulating a comprehensive strategic cooperation plan between Iran and Iraq, highlighting that the security and prosperity of the two nations are interconnected. He urged the swift implementation of agreements to expand economic and infrastructure cooperation and strengthen security ties.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Pezeshkian expressed his satisfaction at hosting Prime Minister Ali al-Zubaidi and his high-level delegation. He affirmed the commitment of both countries to elevate their relations comprehensively.

Pezeshkian articulated Iran's desire to enhance relations with Iraq across various fields, including political, economic, trade, scientific, agricultural, industrial, and security sectors, as well as infrastructure development. He pointed out the shared historical, cultural, and religious bonds as the foundation for this cooperation.

He referred to the Arba'een pilgrimage as a significant representation of these connections, praising the Iraqi people and government for their hospitality towards Iranian pilgrims. He also mentioned the large public participation at Ayatollah Khamenei's funeral as a testament to the deep-rooted ties transcending political frameworks.

The president stressed the need for activating joint mechanisms and urged for regular meetings of joint committees to expedite the implementation of bilateral agreements. He called on relevant ministers to propose practical solutions to facilitate and accelerate cooperation.

Pezeshkian reiterated the importance of preparing a comprehensive strategic cooperation plan, considering it essential for developing long-term relations between Iran and Iraq.
