Baghdad: The Iraqi Artists Syndicate has announced the passing of the esteemed artist Farouk Helal, who died today at the age of 91 after battling a long illness. Helal’s contributions to the field of music and his influence on the Iraqi artistic community were profound and enduring.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Farouk Helal was a graduate of the Music Department of the Institute of Fine Arts, class of 1957. He began his notable career by joining radio and television in the early 1960s, where he quickly became a pivotal figure. Throughout his career, Helal composed numerous melodies that have since become integral to the Iraqi music scene.

Helal’s work included collaborations with prominent artists such as Maida Nuzhat, Hussein Neama, Yass Khader, and Abdullah Al-Ruwaished. His efforts extended beyond composition as he also founded several successful bands, nurturing many artists who would go on to achieve acclaim in their own right. His legacy is further cemented by the numerous local, Arab, and international awards he received throughout his career.
