Baghdad: A senior official at Turkish club Besiktas has resigned following a controversial social media post related to Egyptian footballer Mohamed Salah. The club announced that Faysal Ahmet €¡aglar stepped down from his position on the board after leaks and details about negotiations involving Salah were made public.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the controversy began when €¡aglar posted a picture of Mohamed Salah on his Instagram account, captioned "He's coming," alongside another post with just the name "Salah." These posts stirred excitement among Besiktas fans but proved to be detrimental to the club's negotiation efforts.

The Turkish newspaper Trkiye Gazetesi reported that the post was deemed "irresponsible" and directly affected the club's dealings. The newspaper alleged that Salah's agent used the leaked information as leverage to increase financial demands unexpectedly, leading to a significant administrative backlash and culminating in €¡aglar's resignation.

An official statement from Besiktas confirmed the resignation, stating: "Mr. Faysal Ahmet €¡aglar, a member of the club's board of directors, has officially submitted his resignation from his position effective Thursday, July 23, 2026."

Negotiations between Besiktas and the representatives of the 34-year-old Egyptian national team captain are reportedly ongoing, although no official agreement has been reached yet. Mohamed Salah, who recently became a free agent following his departure from Liverpool, remains a coveted target for top football clubs.
