Baghdad: UN Secretary-General Ant³nio Guterres declared during his visit to Damascus that violations of Syria’s sovereignty are unacceptable. He urged Israel to adhere to the 1974 Disengagement Agreement. According to National Iraqi News Agency, Guterres plans to provide a detailed report to the Security Council by the end of the month concerning Israeli violations in Syria.
Guterres emphasized Syria’s role as a pillar of regional stability and stressed the importance of its reintegration into regional and international economies. He urged the return of development partners and international institutions to assist in unlocking Syria’s economic potential. He pointed out that UN aid currently meets only about 20 percent of Syrians’ needs and highlighted the necessity for support in restoring basic services, infrastructure, and strengthening education and healthcare, along with creating economic opportunities.
