Drunk Driver Causes Death of Traffic Officer in Baghdad


Baghdad: A drunk driver caused the death of a traffic officer while on duty south of Baghdad. The tragic incident occurred in the Dora district, highlighting a severe case of reckless driving resulting in the loss of life.



According to National Iraqi News Agency, the General Directorate of Traffic reported that a drunk driver, operating a Saipa taxi, was responsible for the fatal accident. The driver was speeding excessively and attempted an improper overtaking maneuver, which led to Traffic Lieutenant Amin Ismail Abdul being run over. Lieutenant Abdul, who was assigned to the Dora Traffic Division, was performing his duty of regulating traffic when he was struck and killed instantly.



The General Directorate further explained that following the accident, the driver fled the scene. However, traffic patrol units, in collaboration with units from the Baghdad Karkh Police Command, successfully apprehended the driver shortly after the incident.
