Baghdad: The Minister of Justice, Dr. Khalid Shawani, engaged in pivotal discussions with the Sudanese Ambassador to Iraq, Abdul Rahim Sir Al-Khatim, focused on finalizing the procedures for an agreement to exchange prisoners between Baghdad and Khartoum.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the meeting took place in Dr. Shawani’s office, where both parties explored opportunities to enhance judicial and legal cooperation. Central to these discussions was the advancement of procedures necessary for the formalization of a prisoner exchange treaty, aligning with existing legal frameworks and benefiting mutual interests.

The ministry statement highlighted Dr. Shawani’s emphasis on the Ministry of Justice’s dedication to broadening cooperation with brotherly and friendly nations. He underscored the importance of agreements and memoranda of understanding in the judicial and legal arenas as essential tools for fostering bilateral relations and advancing the shared interests of the two brotherly peoples.

The Sudanese Ambassador conveyed his gratitude for the Iraqi Ministry’s efforts in promoting legal collaboration. He reiterated Sudan’s eagerness to complete the requisite steps for finalizing the prisoner exchange agreement, which he believes will fortify cooperation between Baghdad and Khartoum.
