Baghdad: Iraqi President Nizar Amedi affirmed to Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam on Sunday Iraq’s support for Lebanon’s security and political and economic stability. The Iraqi Presidency’s Media Office stated in a press release received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that “President Nizar Amedi received Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam and his accompanying delegation at Baghdad Palace.”
According to Iraqi News Agency, during the meeting, they discussed the overall bilateral relations between the two countries, emphasizing the importance of continued communication and expanding cooperation in the political, economic, and cultural fields, as well as reviewing developments in the region. “The President indicated that the current stage necessitates concerted efforts to confront the present challenges, while he stressed Iraq’s support for everything that contributes to consolidating stability and advancing Iraqi-Lebanese relations towards more effective partnerships in areas of common interest, in a way that achieves mutual interests and fulfills the aspirations of the two brotherly peoples,” according to the statement.
The statement confirmed that President Amedi affirmed to the Lebanese Prime Minister Iraq’s support for Lebanon’s security and political and economic stability, emphasizing the importance of Lebanese national consensus and strengthening state institutions to preserve Lebanon’s sovereignty and unity. The President also addressed the situation in the region, noting the necessity of halting escalation and prioritizing dialogue and diplomacy to resolve crises in a way that preserves regional and international peace and stability.
For his part, Nawaf Salam, according to the statement, affirmed that Lebanon views Iraq as a pivotal Arab partner and that his government looks forward to expanding and elevating the partnership in ways that positively impact the interests of both countries and translate the shared will into practical projects and programs. He also expressed his appreciation for Iraq’s supportive stances in promoting security and stability in Lebanon.
“The meeting was attended on the Iraqi side by Finance Minister Faleh al-Sari, Oil Minister Bassem al-Abadi, Communications Minister Mustafa Sanad, and the head of the Arab Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Osama al-Rifai, while on the Lebanese side it was attended by Finance Minister Yassin Jaber, Energy and Water Minister Joseph al-Saddi, Communications Minister Charles al-Hajj, Lebanese Ambassador to Iraq Khalil Abdullah Muhammad, and Director of General Security Major General Hassan Shqeir,” according to the statement.
