Ankara: Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan received Khalil al-Hayya, the newly elected head of Hamas's political bureau, and his accompanying delegation in Ankara last night. This marked al-Hayya's first visit to Turkey since assuming his new role on July 20.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, sources in the Turkish Foreign Ministry revealed that Fidan congratulated al-Hayya on his new position and extended wishes for his success. During their meeting, al-Hayya provided an overview of the current situation in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, highlighting the Israeli government's intensified settlement activities and attacks on holy sites in Jerusalem under Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Al-Hayya assured that Hamas remains committed to a constructive approach in peace negotiations, while also updating the Turkish officials on the progress in efforts towards Palestinian reconciliation. In response, Fidan reiterated Turkey's steadfast support for the Palestinian cause across all international platforms.

Fidan emphasized Turkey's ongoing efforts to highlight the actions of Netanyahu's government in Gaza and the West Bank, as well as the assaults on holy sites, within the global community. He also noted that Turkey is actively working to provide additional humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, reaffirming Turkey's dedication to the peace process in the region and appreciating Hamas's role in these efforts.

Turkish media reported that the meeting also covered several other regional issues, underscoring the broad scope of the discussions between the two parties.
