Mosul: The University of Mosul has successfully produced 113 varieties of grapes as part of its sustainable agriculture initiatives, aiming to enhance scientific research and local production. According to National Iraqi News Agency, the university is reinforcing its reputation as a leading academic and research institution in Iraq by implementing projects that bolster sustainable development and enhance self-generated resources, while simultaneously serving the scientific community and the public.

Parween Hamid, head of the Media Division at the University of Mosul, highlighted that the College of Agriculture and Forestry, one of the oldest colleges at the university, has transformed its vineyard into a notable agricultural project. The vineyard houses 113 varieties of grapes-local, Arab, and foreign-cultivated using modern scientific techniques that emphasize sustainable agriculture and the use of organic fertilizers, steering clear of harmful chemicals.

Hamid elaborated that the project stands as an effective model that merges education, production, and scientific research. It provides a variety of grape types to the university's product marketing center at affordable prices, thus supporting local agriculture and catering to the needs of university staff and the local community.

Further, she explained that the vineyard offers a comprehensive scientific environment for postgraduate students and researchers. It serves as a venue for numerous research projects and applied experiments that aim to improve agricultural varieties and boost production efficiency, while also training students in the latest agricultural technologies.

Hamid concluded by noting that the University of Mosul is committed to converting its green spaces into sustainable production projects, thereby enhancing its role as a prominent scientific and research hub.
