Baghdad: The head of the Iraqi Bar Association, Ahlam al-Lami, held discussions with representatives from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to address the activation of the Legal Aid Law. The meeting included key figures from the UNDP's Social Cohesion team, such as David Vedra, Social Cohesion Specialist; Jordan Connolly, Reintegration Specialist; and Mariam al-Rubaie, Legal Support Program Officer.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the conversation focused on understanding the reasons behind the delay in implementing the Legal Aid Law and exploring the Iraqi Bar Association's potential role in facilitating its activation. A significant part of the discussion centered around the association's commitment to protecting children and families returning from displacement camps by addressing their legal needs, particularly the issuance of official documents.

Ahlam al-Lami highlighted the Bar Association's ongoing efforts to advocate for the enforcement of the Legal Aid Law. She noted the organization's collaboration with the High Commission for Human Rights to support the law's implementation. The aim is to develop practical solutions that activate the law's provisions, ensuring that vulnerable groups in society can access essential legal aid services.
