Baghdad: The Ministry of Interior announced on Wednesday that it had investigated 433 projects violating environmental regulations and arrested 45 individuals during the first half of 2026.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Ministry of Interior spokesman, Colonel Mohammed Ali Al-Hassoun, stated in a press release: "During the first half of 2026, the Environmental Police Directorate conducted a judicial investigation into 433 projects violating the Environmental Protection and Improvement Law No. 27 of 2009, which aims to reduce air, water, and soil pollution and prohibits the trade in endangered species."
He further mentioned that 45 individuals were arrested for violating environmental regulations and were referred to the judiciary for legal action.
