Zurich: FIFA President Gianni Infantino has announced the cancellation of the "FIFA Forward Enterprise" project, a controversial proposal that aimed to sell a stake in the World Cup. The project, which had been a source of division among member associations, will no longer proceed. According to National Iraqi News Agency, the main objective of the project was to strengthen member associations and promote the development of football worldwide, particularly in countries requiring more support and investment in football infrastructure. Infantino emphasized that the continuation of the project was contingent upon gaining the majority support of member associations, alongside ongoing consultations with national associations, the FIFA Council, continental confederations, and other stakeholders. FIFA had recently revealed plans to sell a stake in a new company, FIFA Forward Enterprises, intended to manage the commercial operations of major competitions like the World Cup and the Club World Cup. The proposal, howev er, faced immediate backlash. UEFA announced a boycott of future World Cup tournaments, while CONCACAF criticized the process, expressing concerns over the lack of due process and claiming to have been informed only through media reports and press releases. The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) expressed disappointment over the matter reaching the public domain before proper discussion within its governance channels. Meanwhile, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) participated in the consultation process and encouraged its member associations to study the proposals.
