Amman: Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein engaged in discussions with Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi regarding the project to extend the oil pipeline to the port of Aqaba and supply Iraq with energy.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the meeting took place on the sidelines of the ministerial meeting on Jerusalem, held in Amman, Jordan. During this encounter, both ministers emphasized the importance of continuing to develop bilateral relations between Iraq and Jordan. They also discussed arrangements for an upcoming visit by Safadi and the Jordanian Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources to Baghdad, an event anticipated to bolster joint cooperation in various fields.

The Foreign Minister shared insights from Prime Minister Ali al-Zubaidi's recent visit to Washington, highlighting the Iraqi government's policy aimed at consolidating weapons under state control. This policy is a significant aspect of Iraq's latest developments.

Further discussions between the two officials focused on the oil pipeline project extending to the port of Aqaba and the mechanisms for supplying Iraq with electricity via the Jordanian electricity grid. The dialogue also touched upon regional efforts and potential agreements for reopening the Strait of Hormuz to maritime navigation. They stressed the importance of ongoing coordination and joint action within the League of Arab States and other regional bodies to serve both countries' interests and enhance regional security and stability.
