Baghdad: The Ministry of Justice announced the participation of 731 inmates in educational programs within correctional facilities during the 2025-2026 academic year, demonstrating significant engagement and progress.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Ministry has highlighted the effectiveness of its educational programs, which are designed to be a cornerstone of its reform and rehabilitation agenda. These initiatives aim to support inmates in their educational pursuits and equip them with skills necessary for societal reintegration.

The Ministry reported 639 inmates participated in literacy, accelerated learning, and formal education programs, achieving notable success rates. This underscores the Ministry's commitment to providing a comprehensive educational environment within correctional institutions, extending from basic literacy to university education.

Moreover, the Ministry continues to support higher education, with 92 inmates engaged in university studies. Of these, 46 are enrolled at Al-Ain University's affiliated center at Nasiriyah Central Prison, studying disciplines such as Physical Education and Sports Science, English Language, and Law. Another 46 inmates are attending the College of Business Informatics at the University of Information Technology and Communications, located in the University Education Center/Al-Karkh at Rusafa 8 detention center.

The Ministry of Justice emphasized that these educational outcomes reflect the success of its strategy to integrate education into the correctional system. This approach is rooted in the belief that education serves as a pivotal tool for reform and rehabilitation, enabling inmates to emerge as competent and contributing members of society.
