Basra: A prisoner died in Basra Central Prison following a severe health crisis. The Basra Human Rights Office announced the death of an inmate who was serving a sentence under the Anti-Human Trafficking Law. The inmate passed away in the ward for detainees and prisoners at Basra Teaching Hospital.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the inmate was from the Zubair district and was serving a ten-year sentence under Article (6/First) of the Anti-Human Trafficking Law. Preliminary findings suggest that the death was caused by a severe spike in blood sugar levels. The office confirmed it is awaiting the results of the forensic report to determine the final cause of death.
