Diwaniyah: The head of the Human Rights Committee in the Diwaniyah Provincial Council, Anwar al-Ziyadi, emphasized the necessity for an unbiased investigation into the alleged assault on a detainee at the al-Nahda police station.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, al-Ziyadi has urged the Minister of Interior, the head of the Supreme Judicial Council, and the Diwaniyah Police Command to ensure direct and independent judicial supervision over the case. He called for the officer and three personnel accused of the assault to be placed under full custody to prevent any interference with the investigation or evidence tampering.

In a statement, al-Ziyadi declared, "We will not allow any attempt at cover-up or delay. We demand that the results of the investigation be made public, that the perpetrators be dismissed and referred to the judiciary, and that they be made an example of to anyone who dares to abuse their power and violate the dignity of citizens."

She further stressed the role of police stations as protectors of citizen security and dignity, stating that they should never become venues for violating honor and dignity. Al-Ziyadi affirmed the committee's commitment to monitoring the case until justice is served.

The incident reportedly involves a captain and three other officers who were detained on charges of sexually assaulting a female detainee at the Al-Nahda police station.
