Erbil: Reports indicate that US forces have begun a gradual withdrawal from Iraqi Kurdistan as part of a plan to redeploy and end their military presence in Iraq. Meanwhile, reports have emerged of US military convoys leaving Erbil in recent days, heading towards neighboring countries.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the withdrawal is being carried out in successive phases according to a set timetable, while the transfer of equipment and troops from US bases in the region continues. The US Department of Defense has not issued an official statement regarding the details of these recent movements.

In this context, Al-Monitor, citing the Clash Report account, reported that the United States has begun withdrawing its remaining forces from Iraq ahead of the September 30 deadline, noting that the US military has already removed Patriot air defense systems from the city of Erbil.

Iraq and the United States had previously announced a timetable for the redeployment of coalition forces, ending their military missions at several Iraqi sites, with the withdrawal from the remaining bases to be completed by 2026.

Despite the reduced military presence, the United States has affirmed on several occasions that it will continue to cooperate with Iraqi forces in training, intelligence sharing, and combating ISIS, within bilateral frameworks that do not require a large-scale military presence.
