Rabat: US President Donald Trump reaffirmed on Saturday the United States' support for Morocco's sovereignty over the Sahara, emphasizing Washington's support for the Moroccan autonomy initiative as the only basis for reaching a lasting solution to the conflict. The Moroccan Royal Court stated in a press release that "the US President sent a cable to King Mohammed VI of Morocco on the occasion of the 27th anniversary of his accession to the throne, in which he affirmed that "the United States and Morocco are celebrating 250 years of historical relations and friendship," noting that "this relationship is based on trust and mutual respect between the two countries."

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Trump added that "the United States recognizes Morocco's sovereignty over the Sahara," considering the Moroccan autonomy proposal "serious, credible, and realistic," and that "any other path would only prolong the status quo." He continued that "Washington will continue to support efforts aimed at ending the conflict," adding that "the time has come to reach a solution that serves regional stability."

The US President praised "the role played by Morocco in promoting regional security and stability," pointing to "the Kingdom's efforts in combating extremism and supporting peace, and joint cooperation to enhance security in the Sahel region."

Trump affirmed Washington's desire to expand its partnership with Rabat, explaining that his administration had tasked teams to enhance economic and social cooperation with Morocco, including in the Sahara region. He noted that future cooperation would focus on strategic sectors, including energy, artificial intelligence, rare earth minerals, and defense, supporting investments and strengthening the partnership between the two countries.
