The tanker, identified as Ghazlugh Changal and flying under the Bermuda flag, was transporting a shipment of liquefied natural gas when the incident occurred. The vessel reportedly switched off its tracking system while navigating through the area.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) confirmed that the tanker experienced a loss of maneuverability due to damage sustained in its engine room. UKMTO also assured that there were no injuries or environmental pollution resulting from the incident.
