PSG, led by Spaniard Luis Enrique, aims to retain the Super Cup title for the second consecutive season, having won the previous edition by defeating Tottenham Hotspur on penalties in Udine, Italy. The French team hopes to continue its European dominance after its Champions League triumph and secure another title at the start of the new season.

Meanwhile, Aston Villa enters the match with high spirits after winning the Europa League against Freiburg in Istanbul. The English team, led by Unai Emery, hopes to recapture the memories of their 1983 UEFA Super Cup triumph, having defeated Barcelona on aggregate in the two-legged final.
