Baghdad: Dar Al-Ma’mun for Translation and Publishing has launched the “Feminist Memory in Translation” project, aiming to document the contributions of Iraqi women in the field of translation, restore a part of the publishing house’s intellectual heritage from its founding until 2025, and enhance the presence of female translators in Iraqi cultural memory.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Director General of Dar Al-Ma’mun, Ishraq Abdul-Adel, stated that the project represents an important step in preserving the history of the publishing house and its translation achievements, especially after the loss of its archives and publications following 2003. She explained that the committee for compiling translated books worked to track women’s output in the field of translation, both those working at the publishing house and those outside its staff, with the database including 66 female translators in various languages and specializations.

The project documented a number of prominent Iraqi women translators working at Dar Al-Ma’mun and elsewhere. Among the notable names in translation from English are In’am Najm Jabir, Fawzia Naji Al-Difai, Suad Abdul Ali, Zainab Abdul Latif Saleh, Mai Muzaffar, Latifa Al-Dulaimi, and Nasira Al-Saadoun. In translation from French, the project highlighted Asmaa Surur Fawzi, Maha Muhammad Hassan, Iman Fadhil, Lamia Rahim Jassim, and Lauren Zachari.
