Washington: US President Donald Trump acknowledged the decline in the power of pro-Israel lobbying groups in the United States. For decades, successive US administrations have provided military and political support to Israel, which occupies Palestinian territories and parts of neighboring Lebanon and Syria.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Trump’s statement came during an interview with conservative American journalist Wayne Allen Root on the Real America Voice television network. He noted, “The biggest change I’ve seen in the last 10 or 15 years is what’s happened to Israel and the Jewish people.” Trump further commented on the lobby’s diminished influence in Congress, stating, “Now, you know, everybody, especially a large number of them, are not pro-Israel. If you look at the House of Representatives, the Democrats are in control.”

Trump continued his remarks, referencing Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, “Look at people like [Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer], he’s practically become a Palestinian. It’s truly amazing, I’ve never seen anything like it.” This statement reflects Trump’s observations of shifting dynamics within US political circles.

The US elections have revealed the rise of figures opposed to Israeli policies and the unconditional American support for them. Furthermore, numerous American voices are emerging against the interference of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), the largest lobbying group, in US domestic politics.
