Baghdad: The Olympic Committee has announced the termination of Khalid Abdul Wahid Kabyan’s membership and his presidency roles within the Iraqi Water Sports Federation and the Popular Mobilization Forces Sports Club. This decision follows a conclusive court ruling against Kabyan.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Executive Office of the Iraqi National Olympic Committee made the decision after reviewing the verdict from the Karkh Criminal Court, dated June 11, 2026, and the Federal Court of Cassation’s ruling on July 27, 2026. The court’s decision resulted in a one-year suspended prison sentence for Kabyan, which led to his disqualification under Article (9/Second) of the National Sports Federations Law No. (24) of 2021. Consequently, the Iraqi Water Sports Federation has been instructed to terminate Kabyan’s membership and presidency, halting all affiliations with him.
The Executive Office also announced the cessation of dealings with the Iraqi Water Sports Federation within the Olympic Committe
e’s General Assembly until the federation aligns its legal status with the current regulations. Furthermore, the termination extends to Kabyan’s roles in the Popular Mobilization Forces Sports Club, as mandated by the amended Sports Clubs Law No. (18) of 1986. The club is required to immediately end his presidency and membership, stripping him of any administrative, financial, or representative authority.
The Executive Office has directed the General Secretariat to translate the court rulings and distribute them to relevant bodies, including the International Aquatics Federation, the International Olympic Committee, and others, to ensure all parties are informed of the legal outcomes. The actions are intended to uphold the law and correct administrative discrepancies without affecting athletes’ rights or participation in national and international events.
