Abu dhabi: The UAE film industry recorded remarkable box office revenues last year, with earnings exceeding AED 734 million in 2025. This was achieved through the sale of over 14.8 million tickets for approximately 1,270 films screened across the country, solidifying the UAE’s standing as a key player in the regional film and entertainment markets.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the electronic games sector also demonstrated substantial growth, with revenues from digital game stores reaching AED 2.7 billion. The number of reviewed and rated games increased to 552, up from 375 the previous year. This growth highlights the UAE’s emergence as a regional hub for the gaming industry, supported by a regulatory environment that fosters innovation and investment.
In the publishing sector, the UAE issued permits for over 100,000 books and publications, while regulating nearly 1.2 million titles entering the country. This reflects a significant level of cultural and intellectual activity within the nation.
The National Media Authority (NMA) has played a crucial role in regulating digital advertising, issuing over 15,000 “advertiser” permits since its inception last year. This initiative is designed to enhance transparency and professionalism in digital advertising, thereby supporting the content economy’s growth.
Mohammed Saeed Al Shehhi, Vice Chairman of the NMA, highlighted that the accomplishments of the media sector in 2025 showcase the UAE’s success in building a competitive and vital economic pillar that aligns with the nation’s vision of fostering a knowledge-based and innovative economy.
The National Media Authority’s announcement of 2025 results underscores the UAE media sector’s advancements in cinema, video games, publishing, and content creation, bolstered by new legislation and regulatory policies aimed at enhancing the sector’s contribution to the national economy.
