Basra: Residents of Al-Shafi district in Al-Deir, north of Basra, have voiced their opposition to the extension of the current district director’s term, Saad Ismail Ashour, and are calling for the election of a new leader.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, this sentiment was expressed during a public demonstration where participants delivered a message to the Governor of Basra as well as to the head and members of the Provincial Council. The demonstrators urged that the term of the current district director should not be renewed and emphasized the need for electing a new director promptly.

The residents believe that appointing a new director would bring fresh energy to the district’s administration. They assert that such a change is necessary to improve the district’s services and governance, aligning with the aspirations of the local community.
