Washington: US President Donald Trump stated he does not trust Iran, asserting that the United States now possesses “total control” over the Strait of Hormuz.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Trump made these remarks while speaking to reporters at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland, following a campaign visit to Ohio. Trump emphasized his distrust, saying, “I don’t trust Iran. Why? You say I trust Iran? I’m the last person who could trust Iran. They’ve lied to me constantly.”

He elaborated, “We now have total control of the Strait of Hormuz. They don’t control it. We have total control. It’s under our control.” Trump also mentioned the possibility of future conflict, adding, “At some point, they might do something and destroy it, but right now we’re in a very good position.”

Trump characterized the Islamic Republic as having been “the bully of the Middle East” since its inception in 1979 but noted that it “is no longer that.”
