Baghdad: Prime Minister Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi chaired the 14th regular session of the Council of Ministers on Tuesday evening. The session’s agenda was devoted exclusively to approving the Government Program for 2026-2029, which was referred to the Council of Representatives pursuant to Article 38 (First) of the amended Rules of Procedure of the Council of Ministers No. 2 of 2019.

According to Iraqi News Agency, the Media Office of the Prime Minister announced in a statement that the Government Program delineates 139 priorities across 14 key sectors, forming the foundation of the ministerial program under Prime Minister Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi’s leadership. These sectors include state sovereignty and national security; economic and financial reform; industry; governance and corruption control; health; communications; youth and sports; foreign policy; energy; agriculture and environment; education; social protection; human rights; and culture. The program also lists 13 legislative priorities for the government.

The statement elaborated that the Government Program encompasses a series of policies and measures that outline the government’s primary objectives. These include implementing a national program for institutional reform and combating corruption, reviewing legislation, bolstering transparency, investing in minerals, reforming the banking sector, and launching a national digital transformation strategy. The program outlines the establishment of the Supreme Council for Investment and the Supreme Council for Financial and Monetary Stability.

Additionally, the program emphasizes unifying security decision-making, consolidating resources under the state framework, and maintaining the independence of Iraq’s political decisions as a sign of sovereignty. It also aims to reinforce Iraq’s human rights framework, ensure children’s rights, reduce societal violence, and develop leadership programs for women in governance and politics.
