Baghdad: The President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, announced that Iranian officials have shown readiness to assist Iraq in its efforts to control the proliferation of weapons. Barzani emphasized that the authority over weapons should reside exclusively with the state, under the directive of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, who is the Iraqi Prime Minister.

According to Iraqi News Agency, Barzani made these remarks during a televised address where he highlighted the importance of unity among different regions in Iraq, such as Baghdad, Basra, Zakho, and Dohuk. He stressed that the challenges faced by the nation stem from a lack of cohesion, and underscored the necessity of collective action.

Barzani further disclosed that during his recent visit to Tehran, Iranian officials expressed their willingness to support the Iraqi Prime Minister in ensuring that weapons are strictly under state control. This message of assistance was conveyed directly to the Prime Minister, demonstrating Iran’s commitment to helping Iraq in this crucial endeavor.

He also mentioned that Iranian officials responsible for the Iraqi dossier reiterated their readiness to aid a neighboring country, emphasizing that Iraq’s stability aligns with Iran’s interests. Barzani highlighted the economic ties between the two nations, noting that trade, including the exchange of electricity and gas, generates annual profits exceeding $15 billion.
