Damascus: The head of the Judicial Supervision Authority, Judge Laith Jabr, confirmed on Thursday the existence of broad prospects for judicial and legal cooperation between Iraq and Syria, noting that the current visit of the judicial delegation to Damascus addressed the case of detainees from Al-Hol camp.

According to Iraqi News Agency, Judge Laith Jabr stated that the visit occurred following an official invitation from the Syrian Minister of Justice. A judicial delegation led by the President of the Supreme Judicial Council, Judge Faiq Zaidan, traveled to Damascus to discuss several joint issues and files. The discussions focused on the Syrian detainees that Iraq received from Al-Hol prison and their legal status. Judicial investigations were conducted for these individuals in Iraq, and all legal guarantees were provided to them in accordance with the law.

Jabr added that the two sides agreed to form joint judicial committees to hold continuous meetings to resolve the files related to their trials. He noted that the meetings facilitated an exchange of views on strengthening judicial cooperation and developing the exchange of information and experiences. Furthermore, preparations are underway for signing judicial memoranda of understanding between the two countries in the future.
