Baghdad: Border Ports Commission-BPC generated more than 500 billion Iraqi dinars in revenues in July, its chairman Lieutenant General Omar Adnan Al-Waeli said, describing the figure as unprecedented.

According to Iraqi News Agency, Al-Waeli shared this milestone achievement during an interview with Al-Iraqiya news channel, highlighting the significant increase in revenue as a result of tighter oversight measures and intensified efforts to combat corruption at border crossings.

Al-Waeli emphasized that Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Ali Falih Al-Zaidi visited the BPC headquarters to evaluate its oversight operations. During the visit, the prime minister examined the electronic border-management system and inspection procedures, along with the auditing processes for transactions and trucks at airports and ports.

The prime minister instructed the authority to enhance controls and strengthen coordination with judicial and oversight bodies to effectively combat corruption and monitor the performance of agencies operating at the border crossings, Al-Waeli noted.

Furthermore, Al-Waeli pointed out that the BPC had prioritized efforts to combat the smuggling of drugs and medicines due to the severe threat it poses to Iraqi society.

He also mentioned that the BPC had made significant advancements in digital governance and automation. This includes integration with the ASYCUDA customs system to verify invoices and certificates of origin, which helps prevent manipulation and forgery.
