Basra: In a significant announcement on Friday, Basra Governor Asaad Al-Eidani confirmed that investments in associated gas are set to play a crucial role in powering local plants and decreasing Iraq’s reliance on gas imports.

According to Iraqi News Agency, during a joint press conference with the Minister of Oil, Al-Eidani emphasized the need for cohesive efforts between federal and local governments to implement oil and service projects effectively. He elaborated on the potential benefits that such investments could bring to Basra and the country, highlighting the development of areas around oil fields as a key factor in generating positive outcomes.

Al-Eidani underscored the strategic importance of associated gas in running power plants, which could eventually lead to electricity production based entirely on Iraqi gas. He also mentioned the potential to export surplus gas through Basra’s ports, marking a significant shift towards energy self-sufficiency.

Furthermore, Al-Eidani highlighted Iraq’s strategic plans to establish a comprehensive network of pipelines to facilitate the export of oil and gas through multiple outlets, in response to challenges such as the Strait of Hormuz crisis. This initiative reflects Iraq’s commitment to strengthening its energy infrastructure and enhancing its position in the global energy market.
