Ministry of Planning Initiates Discussions on 2027 Investment Budget

Baghdad: The Ministry of Planning held a preliminary meeting on Sunday to discuss preparations for the 2027 investment budget proposals. The meeting was chaired by the Undersecretary for Technical Affairs, Maher Hammad Johaan.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the meeting serves as a prelude to the launch of discussions on the annual investment budget, following a timetable extending from August 16 to 31, 2027. These discussions will include proposals from ministries, governorates, and non-ministerial entities. The meeting aims to review proposed investment projects and allocations, assess their priorities, and determine their readiness for implementation.

The ministry stated that the meeting involved discussions on the technical and procedural requirements for preparing the investment plan for the coming year. It also included a review of data and information related to investment projects and allocations. The importance of the Iraqi Development Management System (IDMS) in organizing and managing development projects and data was emphasized. Technical updates to the system were reviewed, which are expected to enhance data accuracy, expedite processing, and improve management and monitoring mechanisms.

The ministry highlighted the need for clear criteria in project evaluation, considering the actual needs of governorates and sectors, completion rates, and economic and social significance. This approach aims to prepare a realistic and implementable investment plan, directing resources towards projects with significant developmental impact.
