Baghdad: The Commission for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and Special Needs at the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs has taken a significant step by addressing the Council of Ministers. The Commission has proposed the exemption of persons with disabilities and special needs from electricity and water bills or, alternatively, the provision of a special discount tailored to their health and living conditions. This proposal aims to alleviate the financial burdens that arise from their additional needs.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the head of the Commission, Dhikra Abdul Rahim, confirmed the Commission’s commitment to pursuing this proposal with the relevant authorities to ensure the best interests of this segment of society while safeguarding their rights. Abdul Rahim emphasized the Commission’s ongoing efforts to secure facilities and privileges that reduce the burdens on persons with disabilities, in line with the rights guaranteed by law.
Abdul Rahim elaborated that this initiative is rooted in the Commission’s responsibility to protect the rights of persons with disabilities and to enhance the privileges afforded to them under Law No. (38) of 2013, as amended. She highlighted that the Commission remains dedicated to proposing solutions that improve their living conditions and reinforce social protection for them and their families.
