Baghdad: The Ministry of Agriculture, represented by the Department of Forests and Combating Desertification, held an event today, Sunday, to mark World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought. The event, held under the slogan “Green Land… Sustainable Future,” was attended by Minister Abdul Rahim Jassim Al-Shammari, the Undersecretary for Technical Affairs, several directors general from the ministry, officials, and those interested in environmental issues.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, in his address, Al-Shammari emphasized the importance of combating desertification and drought, and strengthening efforts to protect land and vegetation cover, and to support environmental sustainability.

The event included a video presentation showcasing the national projects and programs implemented by the department, and a presentation by expert Dr. Ahmed Saleh Al-Mashhadani on the results of the national team’s calculations of the percentage of desertified and desertification-threatened land.

This event underscores the ministry’s commitment and the importance of integrating national efforts to address the challenges of desertification and drought, and to preserve natural resources, thus contributing to a green environment and a sustainable future.
