Increased Water Releases Directed to Lake Habbaniyah to Boost Water Reserves

Baghdad: The Ministry of Water Resources announced on Sunday an increase in water releases to Lake Habbaniyah by 40 cubic meters per second.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the ministry stated, “In accordance with the directives of Minister Muthanna al-Tamimi, water releases to Lake Habbaniyah have been increased by 40 cubic meters per second, a step aimed at improving the lake’s environmental and water situation.”

The ministry’s statement highlighted that the increased water releases are part of a broader effort to enhance the lake’s water reserves. This move is intended to address the water shortage, maintain the ecological balance, and preserve the natural heritage of the region. Additionally, the initiative aims to improve water quality and provide sustainable water sources to support local communities, including villages and population centers along the lake’s shores.
