Al-Maliki Calls for Enhanced Support to Media and Communications Institutions


Baghdad: Nouri al-Maliki, head of the “State of Law” coalition, emphasized the critical need to support national institutions focused on media and communications and enhance their operational performance. A statement from his office revealed that Maliki met with Baligh Abu Kalal, the head of the Media and Communications Commission’s executive body, to discuss several issues concerning the media and communications sectors in Iraq.



According to National Iraqi News Agency, the meeting involved a thorough review of the current state of the media and communications sector, highlighting the necessity to develop the regulatory environment to align with rapid technological advancements. This initiative aims to bolster the role of media institutions in promoting national awareness and professional responsibility, while safeguarding freedom of expression within the boundaries of constitutional and legal frameworks.



Maliki underscored the importance of supporting national media and communications institutions and enhancing their capabilities to adapt to digital transformation and technological progress. He stressed the need for regulating media activities based on professionalism, adherence to the law, and the protection of public interest.



Abu Kalal, on his part, outlined the Commission’s key strategies and programs aimed at advancing the media and communications sector and strengthening institutional and regulatory functions in collaboration with the Commission’s Board of Commissioners. He highlighted the significance of cooperation and coordination with various state institutions and national entities to serve the public interest.
