Ankara: Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan discussed the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz to navigation and the latest developments regarding the ceasefire between Iran and the United States with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araqchi on Monday.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, sources at the Turkish Foreign Ministry stated that Fidan and Araqchi discussed the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and the latest developments in negotiations concerning the continuation and sustainability of the ceasefire between Iran and the United States in a telephone call.
Washington and Tehran signed a memorandum of understanding on freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz on June 18, but its implementation has stalled due to disagreements regarding the strait’s security.
Between July 8 and 24, the United States resumed its attacks on Iran, and Tehran responded by targeting what it claimed were American military installations and equipment in Arab countries, before resuming talks on safe passage for ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
